People who have consistent sleep schedules and an average of 7 hours of sleep per night tend to live longer than those with irregular and insufficient sleep patterns. This study followed nearly 1,800 adults from the MESA study for about seven years and found that those with stable sleep routines had a 39% lower risk of dying during that time compared to those with erratic and short sleep. The research suggests that sticking to a regular sleep schedule—not just getting enough sleep but also maintaining consistent sleep and wake times—may contribute to a longer life.
